Sign The Dotted Line

It was November 17, 2005, I was wondering what I want to do with my life. I finished high school, went from job to job, even tried going to college, but could not find anything I liked to do. I was trying to think on what I want to do besides working unpleasant dead end part time jobs here and there. So I decided to do what my father did and his father did. I joined the United States Army.
I went down to the recruiting station across from the mall to talk to a recruiter. After talking with them, I set a date to go to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery).  We received the grades from the ASVAB so I got to pick from a list of jobs what I wanted to do. After looking though the list I chose 15X which is AH-64A Armament/Electrical/Avionics Systems Repairer. After picking my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) I sat down with the Army liaison to get my packet ready for the signing and the oath.

After ever thing was signed I went back to the liaisons office to figure out when and where I was going to go for Basic and AIT (Advanced Individual Training). For basic I was slotted to go to Ft. Knox in Kentucky. Which was one of the hardest basic training facility’s around. It was all male, so the Drill Sergeants had little to no remorse to punish us and break us down to make us stronger. Which after doing all of that, I kind of liked how the whole basic training was. From waking up at 0430 to go downstairs for PT formation. To the gas chamber and obstacle course. To even the 5,10,25 mile ruck marches.
After graduating from basic after a long 13 weeks. All the friends that were made went different ways to go to AIT. We all took busses to the airport to go to our different destinations.  Mine was headed to Fort Eustis, Virginia. Home of Bravo Company, First of the Triple Deuce. This was my home for the next 7 months. Went to different styles of classes from wiring to basic electrical components of the aircraft. While doing all the class work we were still at the hands of our o’ so loving Drill Sergeants. Getting smoked, PT in the morning, barracks walk-thoughts, and so on.
With basic done and AIT coming to an end. It was a good experience making new friends, some that I still stay in contact to this day. But now it is time to go out to the real world and start doing my job that signed the dotted line for and to help be a part of a team to serve the United States of America, which I happy did for 8 years of my awesome life, and would do all over again.
